Hans Blank

A native of Holland, Hans Blank attended the Royal Academy of Expressive Visual Arts in Amsterdam, under the leadership of professors Gregoire and Esser. In 1975 he received the Uriot award for his work. Since then he has had individual and group exhibitions worldwide. His sculptures are done in bronze and stone and the subject matter is primarily maritime. Hans fluctuates between contemporary and historical subjects, ranging from shipwrecks, sailors, and Celtic and Viking ships. He is especially interested in the prehistoric migration of cultures across the oceans, in simple vessels or rafts.

Since 1990 Hans has lived and worked most of the year on the Southwest Coast of Ireland in Dingle Bay. Here he has found inspiration to do Saint Brendan’s voyage series, his Irish fishermen, and his wonderful Celtic boats.
