“Every painting tells a story,” Kathryn McMahon says about her collection of oil paintings which consist of small and large works painted on canvas or linen and uniquely framed to suit her impressionistic style. Her colorful paintings document this era in which we live, painted locally, nationally, and around the world at all times of the year. “I paint what I see in today’s world.”
In 2012 one of Kathryn’s paintings was selected for the International Marine Art Exhibition at the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport; three paintings in the Maritime National Show on Mackinac Island, MI and two paintings at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Art, Montgomery, AL. She painted in the Third Canvas Invitational in Naples, FL and has displayed paintings in two National Plein Air Events with PAAC in Taos, NM and in Dallas, TX. In 2011 she exhibited in the American Impressionist Society National Show in Carmel, CA and in the Copley Society Marine Exhibit in Boston. She has also exhibited at several museums, has been on world tour, and has painted from a rowboat in Central Park, NY with the National Academy of Professional Plein Air Painters (NAPPAP).
Kathryn has articles published in Plein Air and Fine Art Connoisseur magazine, where she was Regional Editor, and ASMA magazine printed an article of her painting plein air while on a 10-day Mediterranean Cruise. She has written and published two fine art painting books, Plein Air Painting and Quick and Helpful Tips and Fine Art of Oil Painting with Stories of Color. She is a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists; the American Impressionist Society; Women Artists of the West; Plein Air Artists Colorado and International Plein Air Painters. She is also the V/P Membership for Women Artists of the West which has members from the US and Canada, who are all professional women artists using traditional mediums.
