Mystic Seaport America’s Cup Regatta
Reservations required by June 21
Join us Saturday, July 19, aboard a classic America’s Cup 12 Meter Yacht as crew for our 5th annual exhilarating regatta in Newport, Rhode Island. You’ve seen these legendary 68’ yachts compete for sailing’s most coveted prize, the America’s Cup. Now you can feel the thrill of competing head-to-head aboard these powerful and graceful sailboats in picturesque Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay, the yachting capitol of the east coast.
Back again are American Eagle, Ted Turner’s famous Twelve; Intrepid, the legendary two-time winner in 1967 and 1970; Nefertiti, Ted Hood’s 1962 America’s Cup contender; and Weatherly, the 1962 America’s Cup winner. Please note: sailing positions on Intrepid and Weatherly are now sold out.
The professional sailing crews on each yacht will show you what to do and you’ll practice trimming, jibing, and coming about prior to racing. Participants’ skills are matched with a sailing position, and then the racing begins, culminating in a final victory lap around Newport Harbor, followed by a reception and awarding of prizes at the Newport Harbor Inn.
Space is limited to 12 crew members on each boat. We encourage experienced sailors, novice, and non-sailors alike to join us, making it a fun day on the water for all! America’s Cup Charters specializes in working with sailors of all different levels, and they understand how to involve everyone in the racing. Typically each boat needs at least eight active participants, and racers should be ages 13 and up.
