STAR: NOANK FISH AND LOBSTER BOAT

The boat STAR was built locally for swordfishing and tuna fishing in 1949-1950 for Captain Jack Wilbur of Noank.

The 34-foot long Star was built as a swordfish and tuna bot by Robert Whittaker in Noank, CT, in 1950. She was modeled to be like most of the contemporary boats from that area, many of which fished from Block Island, point Judith, Greenport, Fishers Island and other harbors near Noank. Star was Capt. Jack Wilbur’s boat from when new until he sold her in 1969. She still has her original Lathrop LH-6 engine and has spent some time as workboat on the Museum’s waterfront after being acquired in 1976.

Star is presently being restored in the Preservation Shipyard.
