Biography
Ralph Acosta

Ralph is a New Yorker who moved to Stonington, Connecticut in 2005. He started drawing in his early teens and then taught himself to oil paint by doing portraits of family members and friends. To make a living, he began his career as a freelance display designer in New York City.

Eventually, Ralph was introduced to the teachings of Edgar Whitney, renowned watercolorist at the National Art League in Douglaston, NY. "He opened my mind to the freedom, transparency and spontaneity of watercolors". After studying with Whitney for several years, Ralph was an instructor at the National Art League for 18 years.

He is a member of Lyme Art Association, Old Lyme, CT; Mystic Art Center, Mystic, CT; Hudson Valley Art Association; National Art League, Douglaston, NY; and is a former member of Salmagundi Club, NY, He won 1st Place at the Salmagundi National Member Show and The Newport Art Museum; 1st Place at Mystic Outdoor Art Festival in 2008 and 2nd Place in 2009, 3rd Place in 2010.

Ralph has performed many demonstrations for numerous art leagues throughout Westchester and Long Island, NY. He conducted plein air workshops which included a week in Puerto Rico and with a Northeast coast painting cruise. He currently gives classes and workshops at his studio in Stonington, CT.
