The Run Down the Wind

The Run Down the Wind

LEN J. PEARCE studied fine art, drawing and painting at the City & Guilds School of Art in London, after which he was involved in architectural, graphic and product design projects. He started his own practice in the early 1960's - mostly graphics, and gained membership in the Royal Society of Industrial Artists and Designers. During all this time, he held an interest in fine art, and in the early 1970's, he began seriously painting sailing and steamships. His style at this time was reminiscent of 19th century ship portraits derived from memories of marine paintings and prints in his late father's collection of Victorian art. Examples of Mr. Pearce's paintings can be found in prominent marine art collections in many parts of the world, including the permanent collection of the Mystic Seaport Museum. Recently, Mr. Pearce was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
