Artist Biography

Brechin Morgan spent his childhood summers on a mile long beach near New London, Connecticut. There he developed a lifelong love of the sea and sailing. He dreamed of sailing as a cabin boy on wooden ships to places with exotic names far beyond the horizon.

After two years studying painting at Silvermine College of Art, Brec worked as a mural and sign painter. In 1998, to fulfill his lifelong dream, he bought a 27 foot sailboat, OTTER, and spent four and a half years sailing single-handed around the world.

During the voyage he filled 18 sketchbooks with pen and watercolor drawings. Upon returning home, he set up a studio and has been painting from these images. He also enjoys painting the New England shoreline in all its moods, with many of its working craft and yachts.

Sailing to Maine each summer keeps the palette and inspiration fresh. Brec would add to Ratty’s statement in Wind in the Willows, “There is nothing better than simply messing around in boats...and with paint”.
