A self-taught painter, Cooper has been exhibiting his work since 1984. He has exhibited at The Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport since 1989 and has won their Award of Excellence twice. His work was featured in a 1992 article in Sea History Magazine about marine artists in the Pacific Northwest. His work is shown in galleries across the country, Hawaii and Alaska. It was during the 70's while employed in the busy shipyards of Seattle as a sign artist, that he developed an appreciation for the fascinating histories of the ships and boats that he was working on. At that time, many of the old wooden fishing boats, tenders and tugs were upwards of 50 to 70 years old and had been been making the perilous journey to Alaska every year for decades, taking generations of fishermen North to seek their fortune. Since that time he has made many trips on Alaskan and Puget Sound waters in various types of fishing vessels to observe and document the details of the fisherman's life, for which his work is known. SOLD. If you would like to inquire about the availability of other works by this artist, please contact the gallery. |
