Biography
Mark Topp

Born in 1952 in Syracuse, NY and where he was raised, Mark eventually studied for years with noted Austrian portrait painter Robert Hofmann. A chance meeting with the mate on the yacht JUBILEE, in Oswego N.Y., led to an invitation to Newport, R.I., where said mate was enjoined to take over the "Seaport 76" project, building a replica of the SLOOP PROVIDENCE, at Fort Adams. Subsequently Mark did paintings of the PROVIDENCE, PRIDE of BALTIMORE and surrounding environs. In time he came to learn the ropes as a deck hand / ship steward on various sail and motor vessels, making deliveries and helping with charters.

Mark's family brought him back to Syracuse in 1985 where in 1987 he an opportunity to paint two murals for a municipal center. After this successful project, he was offered a position with the Syracuse Parks Department interacting with public administrators, city planners and park associations. During that time he received occasional portrait commissions and was represented in galleries for his landscapes.

Mark's figurative work has been represented in national competitions, was in a feature article in Artists Magazine, 1999, Best in Show, Cooperstown National 2000, and Best in Show, La Fond National, Pittsburg, PA, 2002. His work can also be found in permanent collections at the Erie Canal Museum, Syracuse, NY and two municipal ice rinks run by the Syracuse Park's Department.
