Biography
Edward Griffith

A graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a Bachelor of Science degree in Design, Ed Griffith has been working as an agency art director, graphic designer, illustrator and painter since 1956, the last fifteen of these years devoted to marine painting. During his fifty-one year career, Ed’s talents have given him the opportunity to work throughout the United States as well as over twenty-five foreign countries.

Edward Griffith combines the natural and man-made scenery of the east coast in a realistic style of painting, capturing the merging impressions of the past and present that are so unique to the ever changing American coast.

Mr. Griffith is an artist member and past member of the board of directors of the American Society of Marine Artists, and his works can be seen in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Europe, South America and the Far East.

Ed’s paintings have been juried into all American Society of Marine Artists national shows in 1997. Paintings by the artists have also been juried into the Robert Ruark Invitational, the Southeast North Carolina Invitational, and the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport’s International Marine Art Exhibition every year since 1998. Ed received the Museum Purchase Award at the 1998 International show; his painting “Inner Harbor” was added to the Museum’s permanent collection. At the 2006 Mystic International, Mr. Griffith’s painting, “Starboard Pass at Dawn,” was honored with the Thomas M. Hoyne III Award, given to the painting best depicting the Gloucester fishing schooners and the marine fisheries industry. History repeated itself at the 2007 Mystic Seaport International art Show when Mr. Griffith received the Museum Purchase Award his painting “Dawn on Port Royal Sound”.
