Biography
C. Robert Bryant

For almost 50 years, C. R. “Bob” BRYANT has created fine art. Working primarily with traditional oil and linen in the techniques of the old masters, he is known for his ability to paint water and his vast knowledge of sailing ships. Today, his focus is maritime art, particularly the rich maritime history of Tacoma, Seattle, and the Puget Sound where he maintains a professional art studio on Raft Island.

Much of his art education has evolved through travel and living abroad, spending considerable time in the world's great art museums, walking and painting in the footsteps of the old masters. Bryant is a veteran single-handed sailor and never far from the sea, preferring to live on or near the ocean.

His work has been collected privately by individuals and corporations for many years. In 1997, Bryant made the decision to paint professionally. His recent paintings are historically accurate maritime scenes based on early 1900's black and white photographs of mosquito fleet steamers and lumber schooners. Bryant is highly skilled in the use of computer imaging and has developed techniques to retrieve visual information from fading historical photographs that he is able to "restore" in his paintings to a full visual spectrum. When not painting, Bob works as a senior marketing executive.

His recent work has been selected for numerous exhibits at Coos Art Museum (winning the People's Choice Award in 1999), Newport Beach Maritime Museum (where his work is part of the permanent collection), and he has been exhibiting in the Annual International Maritime Art Exhibitions at Mystic Seaport for 10 years. Bob is the director of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, the oldest fraternal society of professional artists in America.
