Much of Bob’s art education has evolved through travel and living abroad, spending considerable time in the world's great art museums, walking and painting in the footsteps of the old masters. Bryant is a veteran single-handed sailor and never far from the sea, preferring to live on or near the ocean. His work has been collected privately by individuals and corporations for many years. In 1997 Bryant made the decision to paint professionally. His paintings are historically accurate maritime scenes based on early 1900's black and white photographs of mosquito fleet steamers and lumber schooners. He likes to focus on painting crew portraits, sailors rendered recognizable even when only a few millimeters in size and prefers portraiture over very fine detail. Recently he has been exploring pointillism. This is a style which is attracted by the way the human brain tends to create pure color internally by blending the spots of pigment the eye perceives from the canvas, a new pathway to achieving luminescence. Bryant is highly skilled in the use of computer imaging and has developed techniques to retrieve visual information from fading historical photographs that he is able to "restore" in his paintings to a full visual spectrum. When not painting, Bob works as a senior marketing executive. Most recently Bob’s studio is filled with America’s Cup 45’s and the international teams competing in a world tour leading up to the Louis Vuitton and 2013 America’s Cup on San Francisco Bay. His work has been selected for numerous exhibits at Coos Art Museum (winning the People's Choice Award in 1999), Newport Beach Maritime Museum (where his work is part of the permanent collection), and he has been exhibiting in the Annual International Maritime Art Exhibitions in the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport for over 10 years. Bob is the director of the Puget Sound Group of Northwest Painters, the oldest fraternal society of professional artists in America. $1,800.00 |
