Event sponsored in part by the
Connecticut Civil War Commemoration Commission
Civil War Naval Encampment
June 1-2, 2013
9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Mystic Seaport and the Connecticut Civil War Commemoration Commission are joining together to host an active naval encampment June 1-2 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. This will be a truly one-of-a-kind event, drawing Naval and Marine reenactors from all over the East Coast. Join us as we step back in time to remember the often forgotten history of the Navy in the American Civil War. More than 150 Civil War reenactors will take part in the encampment, representing the U.S. Naval Landing Party, the Tidewater Maritime Living History Association, the USS Lehigh, the USS Port Royal Marine Guard, the 8th, 11th, and 14th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry, as well as the Connecticut 2nd Heavy and Light artilleries.
The reenactors will spend two days camped out on the Museum's village green to remember Connecticut's role in the conflict. Watch as uniformed sailors, soldiers, and artillerymen perform demonstrations, march in formation, fire muskets and cannons, and participate in an amphibious operation on the Mystic River. Hear special talks and learn about the naval contributions to the conflict. If you love maritime history this is an event that cannot be missed.
