Sail Classics Collector's Series from the Collection of Mystic Seaport

Our NEW Collector' Series From the Collection of Mystic Seaport represents over 100 years of Historic seafaring vessels that are unique to Mystic Seaport. Each model boat is hand-crafted and meticulously detailed, built to the same scale by skilled craftsmen. These finished models are licensed representations of the vessels, mounted on a formal wooden display board and completely assembled ready to display.

1841 Charles W. Morgan

Built in New Bedford, Massachusetts, the CHARLES W. MORGAN is the last remaining wooden whaleship in the world. She sailed 80 years from her launching in 1841, ranging across the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. She made a record 37 voyages, earning a total of $1,400,000. In 1967, the Morgan was declared a National Historic Landmark and at age 100, she was acquired by Mystic Seaport in 1941, where she stands as the crown jewel of the Museum's collection. The CHARLES W. MORGAN will undergo a major three-year restoration in fall 2008.

1866 Emma C. Berry

Launched for fisherman John Berry at the R.&J. Palmer yard in Noank, Connecticut, the EMMA C. BERRY fished local waters for nearly 30 years. In 1886, she was re-rigged as a schooner to divide the rig for easier handling. After being acquired by Mystic Seaport in 1966, the Berry underwent an extensive rebuilding and restoration, returning her to her original configuration as a smack. A National Historic Landmark, the EMMA C. BERRY is the only remaining example of the famed yacht-like smacks of Noank.

1908 Sabino

Originally named Tourist, the steamboat SABINO was launched from W. Irving Adams' shipyard in East Boothbay, Maine, in 1908. Renamed in 1921, SABINO spent most her life running on the Damariscotta River, the Kennebec River and Casco Bay. She was acquired by Mystic Seaport in 1973 and declared a National Historic Landmark in 1992. SABINO remains one of the last coal-fired steamboats in operation in the U.S.

1921 L.A. Dunton

The L.A.DUNTON was built by the Arthur D. Story shipyard in Essex, Massachusetts. One of the last surviving examples of an American fishing schooner, the L.A.DUNTON enjoyed a worldwide reputation for speed and beauty. In 1922, her first master, Felix Hogan, installed an auxiliary engine. By the time she was acquired by Mystic Seaport in 1963, she had become a freighter carrying just enough sail to steady her. A National Historic Landmark, the L.A.DUNTON was restored to her original appearance and placed on exhibit by 1964.

Our model features all-planked hull and deck. Individual numbered dories stacked on deck. Model comes completely rigged and ready for display.

1932 S & S Brilliant

Designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built in 1932 at Henry B. Nevin's City Island shipyard for Walter Barnum, BRILLIANT stood out as superior with her custom design and skilled craftsmanship. Since joining Mystic Seaport's fleet in 1953, BRILLIANT has carried more than 8,000 crew members in her sail-training programs, the oldest program of its type in the U.S. This program served Mariner Girl Scouts from the mid-1950s to the mid-1980s, and is now open to all teenagers and adults. In 1997, she was named Sail Training Ship of the Year by the American Sail Training Association, and has been a consistent winner in classic yacht races during the past 25 years.

Freedom Schooner Amistad - 21"
(some assembly required)

The Freedom Schooner Amistad was built at Mystic Seaport and launched March 25, 2000. Amistad is the largest vessel ever constructed at Mystic Seaport and was built with shipyard staff and students from vocational schools in Connecticut. Re-created after the ship LA Amistad to educate the public about the story of the Amistad Incident from the crew and discover ways to increase tolerance and understanding in their communities.
