On October 20, 2008, the Charles W. Morgan began her restoration "voyage." Guided by Mystic Seaport shipyard workers, vessels and cheers from more than 250 visitors, the nation's last wooden whaling vessel moved from her permanent berth at Chubb's Wharf to the Museum's Henry B. duPont Preservation Shipyard in anticipation for her November 1 haul out. Mystic Seaport chanteyman Don Sineti kept the morning event festive by serenading the whaleship's journey with songs from the sea.
After the approximate hour-long move, the Morgan arrived safely at the shipyard and workers immediately began preparations for her haul out. Once hauled, the vessel will remain in her temporary home at the Museum's shipyard for the next three years to undergo an extensive restoration.
