Mystic Seaport Accessibility Guide
General Information
Welcome! Mystic Seaport is an outdoor history museum and re-created 19th-century seafaring village. The Museum covers over 19 public acres and has more than 40 historic and reconstructed buildings. Unpaved roads and cobblestone sidewalks lead to houses, workshops, vessels and gardens typical of 19th-century rural New England. Boarding vessels is done through a variety of wooden gangways with battens to prevent slippage. Throughout the Village and waterfront, demonstration squad, interpreters and staff re-enact and discuss the daily life, work, and community celebrations of earlier generations.
Approximately one-third of our buildings have wheelchair-accessible entrances; interior access varies. The Village's unpaved roads are generally firm and stable suitable for wheelchairs and strollers. All roads are basically level with a few slight inclines located near the Children's Museum, Planetarium and Membership Building.
Food service and restrooms are conveniently located on Museum grounds and are handicap accessible.
The Visitor Reception Center (VRC), located across from the Museum's south parking lot, is the main entrance for most visitors. Ticketing and information services are located here. Please enter the Visitor Reception Center by passing through our Welcome garden and courtyard. (See Map of the Grounds.)
During summer months and for some special programs and events, the north entrance is also open. This alternate entrance is located across from the Museum's north parking lot. In both cases, the parking lots are situated east of Greenmanville Avenue (also known at Route 27) whereas the Museum is located on the west side (along the water). Visitors must cross Greenmanville Avenue to gain access to the Museum.
Special needs visitors will receive a 50% discount on admission. One additional adult attending to the special needs visitor will also receive a discount of 50% on admission. No additional discounts apply. Prices are subject to change please contact 860.572.0711 with any pricing questions.
