Restoring Star - Noank Fish & Lobster Boat

Star was hauled out in October 2003 for major restoration. Many of her forward frames and much of her planking were replaced. A new stem was added in February 2004.

 

Star - Noank Fish & Lobster Boat

Designed by Eldridge and built at Eldridge Boat Shop, Noank, Conn., 1949-1950, Star was built for swordfishing and tuna fishing south of Montauk, Long Island. Star was owned by Captain Jack Wilbur until 1969, when she was sold to James Giblin. Star came to Mystic Seaport in 1976.


Boat dimensions: 34' x 10'8"

Engine: 107 HP LH-6 Lathrop gasoline


Details: 1" cedar plank hull, sheerstrakes (3) fir, frame & backbone oak, decks fir, pilot house plywood, small galley, 4 bunks, flybridge & pilothouse controls. Engine freshwater cooled, fathometer, fishwell, 3 blade 24x16 propeller and spare propeller, manual and electric bilge pumps, 6 volt elec system. Green topsides, ivory raised deck, buff deck, mast and boom. Originally outfitted with 15' pulpit and topmast with lookout rings.
