Travel to Cuba with Mystic Seaport
Members Only!
March 10 - 17, 2013
Explore Cuba's customs, culture, and colonial and maritime history with the National Trust and its architectural historian Dwight Young and Dana Hewson, Mystic Seaport watercraft and preservation expert. Young and Hewson will guide the group through some of Cuba's cultural and architectural highlights. The trip also includes visiting UNESCO World Heritage cities of Cienfuegos, Trinidad, and Old Havana.
A highlight of the trip will be a visit to Ernest Hemingway's Finca Vigía and also seeing the famous author's boat Pilar. Hewson has played a key role in preserving and restoring the vessel. There will be discussions and cultural exchanges between the Mystic Seaport travelers and Cubans by meeting students from the University of Havana, visiting and dining with chefs from the Culinary Association of Cuba, and attending a musical performance with members of Cuba's renowned Buena Vista Social Club.
