Education and Programs

For more than 50 years, the Mystic Seaport Education Department has worked with teachers to provide an educational experience specially tailored to the needs of their curriculum. At present more than 29,000 students per year participate in our programs. Take a look at the videos below —"Educational Expeditions at Mystic Seaport" and NBC Connecticut's "Hands-on Learning in Mystic"— to get a feel for the Museum's programs and student involvement. Educators and students tell our story best:

Educators

With Mystic Seaport, educators can plan field trips, register for Homeschool Programs, have the Museum visit your classroom, enroll in college or graduate programs, and more.

College and Graduate Programs

College and Graduate Programs

Explore maritime culture, past and present, with a college or graduate program presented by Williams-Mystic, the Munson Institute, or the Paul Cuffe Memorial Fellowship. Or perhaps a summer internship in museum education through Trinity College.

Summer Camps

Mystic Seaport offers a number of Summer Day Camp programs for boys and girls ages 4-16; an opportunity for young people to sail on the beautiful Mystic River and sleep on a tall ship with the Joseph Conrad Overnight Summer Sailing Camp; and for sailors ages 15+, the opportunity to sail aboard schooner Brilliant.

Overnight Programs

Anchor Watch lets youth groups spend an evening doing maritime activities and then gives them the chance to sleep aboard the 1882 square-rigged training ship Joseph Conrad. Our Ship to Shore program lets school groups experience the flavor of life at sea and shore as teachers and students stay aboard the Conrad by night and explore the Mystic Seaport village and exhibits by day.

Just for Scouts

Mystic Seaport and scouts have a long history together completing a variety of Museum projects including unloading ballast. See how our programs and activities can help scouts earn a variety of badges and awards. Special planetarium programs designed just for scouts are also available.

Planetarium Navigation and Weather Classes

The Treworgy Planetarium offers a variety of classes, including coastal and celestial navigation, weather and marine meteorology, and orienteering and using a sextant. Specialized group programs are also available for school groups to meet curriculum standards and scouts to earn badges and pins.
