Planetarium Group Programs
(Reservations Required. Available Year Round)
Since early times, navigators have used the heavenly bodies to determine their ship’s position at sea. Planetarium programs illustrate the night sky for students while providing an in-depth look at navigation, astronomy, math and other related topics. Planetarium programs can be customized to support your curriculum or interests. We work with all ages, pre-K through adults.
Grades: Pre-K – 12
Duration: 30-minute and 50-minute programs available (arranged throughout the day to accommodate group needs)
Size: up to 90 participants including chaperones
Fee: $2.50 per person for a 30-minute program. $4 per person for a 50-minute program, in addition to the Museum's admission fee. (Minimum fee of $85 per Planetarium program)
Deposit: $25 non-refundable deposit is required

Unearth the beauty of science as it helps us understand the stars and solar system. Why doesn’t Earth fall into the sun or the moon into Earth?
Stars and Navigation by the Great Explorers
Retrace a historic voyage by using stars to find your location and track your course. Become familiar with early tools and methods of navigation as recorded in historic logs and journals.
Finding Our Way by the Sun and Stars
Introduce the ancient art of celestial navigation to your class. Students learn how to determine direction, latitude and longitude by the position of the sun and stars.
Stars of a Voyage to Freedom (Amistad)
Experience the changes in the night sky as seen by the Amistad Africans on their return trip to Sierra Leone. Using celestial navigation, students discover how latitude can be determined by using key stars and constellations.
Stars and Constellations of the Current Season's Sky
Discover the beauty of the dark night sky that has inspired poets and guided mariners. Learn how to find the principal stars and constellations and hear a story or two about them.
Zoo in the Sky
(for pre-K and K)
Using stories of the animals of the night sky, we will take you on a journey among the stars under the Planetarium sky.
Other programs, such as Lives of the Stars; Zodiac Through Time; Sky Calendars and Clocks by Moon, Sun and Stars; Binary Stars and Solar Systems; and Dragons, Dippers and Rivers of Stars are also available. Remember! We can customize a program to support your curriculum and grade level.
PLANETARIUM ONLY VISITS
If you wish to bring your group solely for a Planetarium program, group rates are $4 per person for a 30-minute program and $7.50 per person for a 50-minute program. There is a minimum fee of $85 per program and a $25 non-refundable deposit is required. Admission to the Museum is not required for Planetarium only visits..
