Adult Sailing Programs aboard Schooner Brilliant

Coed, Ages 19+ (Are you 15-18? Click here for teen programs.) Brilliant normally carries up to eight adults on two- and four-day trips in the spring and fall. Trips run Friday to Saturday and Sunday to Monday.

Join seven other adults and the professional crew aboard Brilliant for a hands-on, full participation sailing experience aboard a classic yacht. Learn to sail a 61-foot schooner while cruising local waters and visiting scenic anchorages and towns. Participants become part of the crew as they raise the sails, haul on lines, steer, help in the galley and learn traditional seamanship.

Common ports of call may include Block Island, RI and Shelter Island, NY. The nightly anchorages are weather dependent and at the Captain's discretion. When space and weather permit, Brilliant will lay to a dock permitting shore leave for the crew. While Brilliant has modern safety and navigation equipment, her accommodations are true to her original construction providing open sleeping quarters and traditional heads.

Participants must be physically fit and agile as well as competent swimmers to take part in the sailing program. Once you reserve a berth aboard Brilliant, you will be sent a health form and handbook outlining what to bring, arrival information, as well as many other details. No sailing experience is necessary. Information on the location of specific docks (other than Mystic Seaport) will be distributed after registration.

2013 Sails

August 26-27: American Schooner Association Rendezvous at Block Island - Two-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. Join schooner Brilliant in Mystic and enjoy a sail to Block Island. Brilliant will dock for the night in company with over a dozen other schooners who are members of the American Schooner Association, and then sail back to Mystic the next day. Cost: $360 member, $410 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board and depart in Mystic, CT.

August 28-30: Brilliant to Gloucester, MA - Three-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. Sail Brilliant from Mystic to Gloucester on a three-day sail, anchoring in the evenings. Cost: $570 members, $650 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board in Mystic, CT and depart in Gloucester, MA. Stay aboard Brilliant Friday night, August 30 and/or Saturday night, August 31 for $50 a night. Brilliant will be tied to the dock participating in the Gloucester Schooner Festival.

September 1: - Gloucester, MA - Sail aboard Brilliant for the Gloucester Schooner Race! One-day sail, Sunday, September 1. Board 9am, depart 4pm. $185 for members, $195 for non-members. 10 adults (ages 16+). Board and depart in Gloucester, MA.

September 2-3: Gloucester, MA to Boston, MA - Two-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $360 member, $410 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board in Gloucester, MA, and depart in Boston, MA.

September 6-7: Boston Two-Day Sail - Sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $360 member, $410 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board in Boston, MA, and depart in Boston, MA.

September 8-10: Boston, MA to Mystic, CT - Three-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $570 members, $650 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board in Boston, MA and depart in Mystic, CT.

September 13: Mystic, CT to New London, CT - One-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. Sail in company with other vessels attending the New London Schooner Festival. $140 members, $150 non-members. 10 adults (ages 16+). Board in Mystic, CT and depart in New London.

September 14: New London Schooner Festival Day Sail - One-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. Sail in company with other vessels attending the New London Schooner Festival. $140 members, $150 non-members. 10 adults (ages 16+). Board in New London, CT and depart in New London, CT.

September 20: Mystic, CT to Greenport, NY for Greenport Maritime Festival - One-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $140 members, $150 non-members. 10 adults (ages 16+). Board in Mystic, CT and depart in Greenport, NY for the Greenport Maritime Festival. Lengthen your stay in Greenport! Add a night on to your trip and stay aboard Brilliant tied to the dock for $50 a night on Friday night and enjoy the Greenport Maritime Festival on Saturday.

Mystic to Mystic Two-Day Sails - Sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $360 member, $410 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board and depart in Mystic, CT.

Mystic One-Day Sail - One-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $140 members, $150 non-members. 10 adults (ages 16+). Board and depart in Mystic, CT.

Mystic Three-Day Columbus Weekend Sail - Three-day sail begins at 9am and concludes at 4pm. $570 members, $650 non-member. 8 adults (ages 18+). Board and depart in Mystic, CT.

October 12-14, 2013

Charters

Brilliant charters are available. If you charter Brilliant, please bear in mind that we must have at least six able hands, fit and agile, to run the boat safely. Charters are limited to eight adults. For more information please visit our charter page.

Cancellation Policy and Statement of Responsibility

Please read carefully: Full payment must accompany this registration. Mystic Seaport reserves the right to cancel the program in case of bad weather, mechanical problems or other unforeseen circumstances. In such cases, your payment will be returned. If you cancel 30 days prior to sailing time, your payment, less an administrative fee of 25% of the course cost (50% for Brilliant charters), will be returned. No refund will be given if you cancel within 30 days of sailing time. Cancellations and requests for refunds must be in writing.
