Discovery Barn
If you're over eight and ready for fun and learning, the Discovery Barn is the place for you. Show your friends knots you know, and learn a few more. Touch and smell baggywrinkle and find out where you can see it on our ships. See how steady your hands can be while playing the old-fashioned game, Skittles. Learn two secret forms of communication between ships, called signal flags and semaphore. Develop good teamwork by furling a sail.
The Discovery Barn is a great place to visit at the beginning of the day as an introduction to the Museum, or at the end of the day as a review of all your experiences -- we'll see you there!
Attached to the Discovery Barn is the carriage shed from the Baptist Church in Winthrop, Connecticut, which was built before 1866 and moved to the Museum in 1954. It is currently used to house the draft horses used for carriage rides around the Museum grounds.
The Discovery Barn is open seasonally. Please check the Museum's daily activity sheet for availability.
