Amistad Launch Commemorative Coin
Limited Edition of 7500

This coin commemorates the launch of Amistad and celebrates the partnership between Amistad America and Mystic Seaport. The image on the front is moulded directly from a token originally produced by the American Anti-Slavery Society in 1838, now in Mystic Seaport’s collection. Originally produced to bring attention to the cause and support their abolitionist efforts, this token now will support the educational efforts of Amistad America and Mystic Seaport. Cast in pewter as a tangible keepsake marking this historical event, only 7500 will be produced. In the tradition of the age of sail, one of theses tokens will be placed beneath each of Amistad’s masts before she set sail in the summer of 2000.
