Born and raised in New Jersey, Bareford moved to New England after graduation from college. Fascinated by the watercolor medium as a student, he achieved success early in the exhibitions held by organizations such as the American Watercolor Society, the National Academy of Design and the Allied Artists of America.Cape Ann, Massachusetts is the home of two famous art colonies, many nationally known artists, and occupies a prominent place in art history. Compelled by a desire to live near the ocean, Bareford moved to Rockport, Massachusetts in 1971. Soon a member of the Rockport Art Association, Bareford's painting flourished in this atmosphere. Eventually, he turned his attention from watercolor to oil painting, wanting to paint without the restrictions inherent in watercolor. His paintings are distinctive for the rich use of color and his ability to “capture the moment.” Moved by the subjects that interest him, he strives for continuing excellence.Mr. Bareford has achieved international recognition for the large catalog of rowing paintings he has produced over the years. An elected member of many professional art organizations, Bareford is a Fellow of the American Society of Marine Artists. He is included in important corporate and private collections throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad. He has completed many commissions for corporate clients and private individuals.
