North End Grass GardenAdd to My Trip | View My Trip
The garden, located north of the River Garden, is a quiet and beautiful area planted with an array of low maintenance grasses and perennial plants. The differing colors and textures of the ornamental grasses are complemented by the asters, solid asters, and rudbeckias, which add late summer warmth as they all come into bloom.
Highlights of the North End Grass Garden include:
New York Aster (Aster novi-belgii)
This purple flowered perennial is native to North America. The star-shaped flowers add attractive texture and color into the garden. This perennial is a great addition to a naturalized garden or a meadow planting.
Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta var. pulcherrima)
This beautiful flower is native to North America. Black-eyed Susans bring a splash of yellow into the garden and look great with grasses and other wildflowers. Planting black-eyed Susans in masses creates drifts and adds bold texture. The golden-yellow flowers are great in cut arrangements.
Switchgrass (Panicum virgatum)
A wonderful plant with mounded foliage and stately flower stems, Switchgrass can be used as a specimen, screening plant, or to provide winter cover for wildlife. The dainty maroon panicles can be used for fresh or dried flower arrangements.
