Own a Morgan Plank

The CHARLES W. MORGAN at the Museum's Shipyard, March 2014Put your name down for a piece of the Charles W. Morgan and help take her to the seas again. The Morgan, the world’s sole surviving whaleship, makes her first voyage in 2014 in more than 90 years. And you can be a part of it—by becoming a plank holder in this unprecedented project.

Along with having your name linked to a significant moment in maritime history, you’ll also receive an authentic locust trunnel mounted on a locust plank with a brass plaque commemorating your support. Additionally, your name will be added to the Morgan’s Donor Honor Roll.

Your support ensures that the restored Morgan will sail once more for her 38th Voyage. Restoring and sailing the whaleship is a full expression of Mystic Seaport’s dual responsibilities of stewardship and education, unmistakably demonstrating the institution’s leadership in the museum field. This endeavor will preserve the Morgan for future generations and add significantly to the historic record through unprecedented research and documentation.

“The story of the American whaling industry, which the Morgan so powerfully represents, is a rousing chapter in American history,” said Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough. “She is emblematic of a vastly larger story and her restoration will enable Mystic Seaport to continue telling this story for years into the future.”

This unique opportunity to support the Charles W. Morgan‘s historic 38th Voyage is available with a gift of $5,000 to the Museum’s restoration efforts. Please call the Advancement Department at 860.572.5365 or email Matthew Stackpole to reserve your plank.

Thank you for your support in helping preserve this National Historic Landmark.
