Born in 1946 Gilbert Declercq studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Gent, Belgium. He has been active as a professional painter and illustrator since he finished his studies in 1970.
Gilbert has won several national and international awards for his watercolors. One award was given him by the Royal Watercolor Society, London. He has been featured in many one-man exhibitions in Belgium and Austria. His work is included in the state collection of Belgium, the collection of the National Fishing Institute and the collection of the Memling and Potterie Museum at Bruges, Belgium. The artist’s work is also included in the collection of the city of Innsbruck, Austria.
Mr. Declercq participated in a calendar project sponsored by Dai-Nippon of Japan in cooperation with the Society of Illustrators, USA, of which he has been a member since 1984. He is also an artist member of the European Institute of Watercolor. Mr. Declercq’s work is also included in many private collections.
