Susan Lynn received her BFA in 1985 from Kansas State University. After a 15 year career as an architectural illustrator, she made the transition to fine art, focusing primarily on painting the landscape, both in studio and en plein air.
She found the world of architectural illustration to be a fantastic training ground for a realist painter, demanding a thorough knowledge of perspective, and a constant study of light, shadow, and color. A recent transplant from the Midwest to Rockport, Massachusetts, she has begun to expand her subject matter to the beautiful seascapes and shorelines that now surround her. Widely collected, her paintings have been featured in solo exhibitions at the Birger Sandzen Memorial Gallery and the National Agricultural Hall of Fame, and in group exhibits at the Steamboat Art Museum, the Rockwell Museum, the Tucson Desert Art Museum, the Albrecht-Kemper Museum, the Great Plains Art Museum, and the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Museum. Recent notable juried exhibitions include the Salmagundi Centennial Exhibition, the American Women Artists Master & Signature Member Exhibit, the LPAPA Best of Plein Air Juried Exhibit, and the American Impressionists Society National Juried Exhibition.
In 2017, she became an elected Artist Member of the historic Salmagundi Club in New York, and has since had work selected for exhibition in four of the club’s juried shows, winning the Herbert L. & Harmer Smith SCNY Award at the Salmagundi Club Spring Auction Exhibit in 2018. Other notable awards include the People’s Choice Awards at the Borrego Plein Air Invitational and at the Bucks County Plein Air; 1st Place in the Dockside Quickpaint at Door County Plein Air, and the Award of Recognition for 2-D at the American Women Artist’s National Juried Exhibition. Susan is a Signature Member of the Outdoor Painters Society, American Women Artists, and an elected Artist Member of the North Shore Arts Association.
