John Morrison is a Maine-based painter, who developed an interest in boats and sailing as a youngster when he and his family sailed on the Hudson River in southern New York State. Following a career in the U.S. Air Force, he returned to his home in Kittery, Maine with his wife Vivian and his son James, and began concentrating on marine art. This combined his life-long love of painting and the visual arts with his interest in the sea.
Largely self-taught, he has studied with several prominent artists, the most notable being Don Demers. The ever-changing nature of Maine’s beautiful coastline provides the backdrop for his representational oil paintings of the sea, the boats and the people who use it for both work and recreation.
