Born in New York City, Ron Saporito started painting at an early age. Encouraged to pursue a career in art, Ron attended the New York Phoenix School of Design, Art Students League and completed his studies at the School of Visual Arts. Inspired by the beauty of New England, Ron accepted a position as an illustrator at Electric Boat in Groton, Connecticut. Ron’s exposure to the New England shoreline opened the door to marine painting.
After 23 years of exhibiting his work at local galleries and outdoor shows, Ron sold many paintings and received numerous awards. He received an Award of Excellence at the Maritime Gallery’s International Marine Art exhibition at Mystic Seaport Museum. It was at this juncture in his career that he decided to devote all of his time to painting and now participates in all their exhibitions.
Ron is a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Artists and the Old Lyme Art Association. He has been represented in national exhibitions at the Frye Museum in Seattle, Washington, and the Cummer Museum in Jacksonville, Florida. To sum up Ron’s thoughts about his art, he believes that “a painting not only represents a person, place, or thing, it must also reflect the soul that emanates from its own unique environment.”
