Ken has always been interested in the sea. He supposes it comes from his Danish and Norwegian parents.
He grew up in Los Angeles and after graduating from high school he studied photography at the Art Center College of Design. He later served in the navy as a photographer during the Viet Nam War. After the war he returned to Los Angeles and started “Thomsen Graphics”, a service which provides press ready plates and lithographic negatives to printers. Ken has been living in beautiful upstate New York ever since he sold his business in 1981.
Of the scores of models which Ken has built through the years, he has none in his own home. They all have been sold through galleries are in private collections.
