2019-2020 Adventure Series: Mary Maynard Drake: SCUD Around the World
February 20, 2020
Two parents, three children, one dog, and no engine – one family’s story of pursuing a dream from boat construction to life at sea on the Scud.
In July 1973, a local Noank family set sail on a life changing trip around the world. Their ship Scud was a reproduction of Captain Joshua Slocum’s yawl Spray, which they built themselves with the help of the community. Join us as the family’s matriarch, Mary Maynard Drake, shares their exciting story from Scud’s construction in Noank to life in faraway ports like Pago-Pago, American Samoa, and Cape Town, South Africa.
Evening program will be at StoneRidge.
