38th Voyage Whaleboat Event: Mystic River Row
May 17, 2014
As part of her grand send-off, Mystic Seaport staff members will row a fleet of whaleboats downriver behind the Charles W. Morgan when the vessel leaves for her 38th Voyage on May 17, 2014. The journey will begin at Mystic Seaport and continue downriver under the Mystic River Bascule Bridge. All are invited to line the banks of the river and watch this historic moment.
The whaleboats will depart with the Morgan at 9:15 a.m. Four of the whaleboats, which were built for the 1841 whaleship’s 38th Voyage, were created by Gannon & Benjamin Marine Railway, Great Lakes Boat Building School, Rocking the Boat, and The Apprenticeshop. The fifth boat was built by Will and Walter Ansel for Mystic Seaport in 2003 and will return to the Museum after the downriver row.
