Chase away the winter chills with the comfort of freshly baked warm bread from the hearth. Join Mystic Seaport Museum staffer Mary Pat Thayer at the Buckingham-Hall House to bake yeast bread in a cast iron bake kettle.

Try your hand at the following things: proofing yeast – how does it work?, learning  about Autolyse, active dry vs instant yeast, mixing ingredients, kneading dough, first and second rise – managing heat to help the rise, shaping dough, using coals from the hearth to bake your bread, and fitting bread into your schedule.
