Day Trip to New Bedford Whaling Museum & Historic District
October 24, 2017
Come join us for a trip to New Bedford, MA, to explore the New Bedford Whaling Museum and surrounding historical neighborhoods and fishing district. Transportation will be provided by Mystic Seaport. Members and their guests will board the bus at Mystic Seaport Museum at 8:30 a.m.
Our morning destination will be the New Bedford Whaling Museum, where we will participate in a special guided tour. Afterwards, there will be plenty of time to explore the museum on your own. The museum is the home of 5 massive whale skeletons, the world’s largest ship model, the Lagoda, an extensive maritime art collection, and many artifacts surrounding the whaling industry and whale conservation.
Group participants can enjoy lunch on their own at the museum or walk to any of the several choice restaurants in the surrounding historic neighborhood. After lunch, the group will meet at the National Park Visitor Center for an orientation about “The City that Lit the World” before embarking on an exploration of the historic neighborhood and fishing district. The group will board the bus back to Mystic at 3:45 p.m. and will return by 5:30 p.m.
