Join Mystic Seaport Museum’s Senior Curator Fred Calabretta for a fascinating look behind the scenes at many of the finest and most unique ship models in the Museum’s vast collection. Among the highlights are a nine-foot model of Titanic, a Civil War ironclad vessel built on the Mystic River, miniature models that attracted the interest of Walt Disney, and the works of celebrated model makers such as Charles G. Davis and Erik Ronnberg. Secrets of the model makers will also be revealed, including their use of “artist supplies” such as coat hangers, yardsticks, and tuna cans.
Please park in the lot across from Latitude 41 Restaurant and meet in the lobby of the Thompson Exhibition Building. A membership staff member will greet you and lead the group across the street to the Museum’s Collection Research Center to meet your tour guide, Senior Curator Fred Calabretta. Personal cameras are allowed on the tour. Please note that all bags and jackets will be checked in the coat room of the Collections Research Center before the tour enters the Collections Vault for the tour.
