Members’ Trip: Behind the Scenes at Yale University
Members are invited to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Yale University’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. The tour will include the Vinland Map and other rare collection items not available for viewing by the public. Joining the tour will be Nicholas Bell, senior vice president for Curatorial Affairs at Mystic Seaport, who will lend his expertise on the upcoming collaboration with Beinecke Library for the Vinland Map exhibition opening at Mystic Seaport in May 19, 2018.
Following this in-depth tour, members will have time on their own for lunch before a tour of Yale’s historic campus.
8:30 a.m. – Bus departs from Mystic Seaport for Yale University
10 a.m. – Tour of Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library with Library Staff and Nicholas Bell
12 p.m. – Lunch Break
1:45 p.m. – Tour of Yale University historic campus
3 p.m. – Bus departs Yale University for Mystic Seaport
About the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library
The Beinecke Library is one of the largest buildings in the world devoted entirely to rare books and manuscripts and serves as the center for research for Yale’s students and faculty, along with other scholars from around the world. Included in its vast collections are the Gutenberg Bible, the first Western book printed from moveable type, and John James Audubon’s Birds of America.
