America and the Sea Exhibition and Sale
April 29 - June 18
The Maritime Art Gallery will begin its 2017 season with “America and the Sea: Modern Marine Masters Exhibition and Sale.” This spring show showcases exceptional works by national and international Maritime Gallery artists with original paintings, drawings, sculpture, scrimshaw, and ship models. On view are images of classic racing yachts, fighting sail, seascapes, marsh scenes, and everyday working boats and the people who make their living from the sea.
Each of these contemporary masters continues the tradition of preserving and celebrating the art of the sea by transferring his or her experience into a vivid and visual expression, one that may evoke a mood, record an important moment in maritime history, or capture the enduring challenge of the sea.
“We are proud to present this invitational show as it represents such a talented group of artists who are creating some of today’s most exciting maritime art. Each piece truly portrays the maritime experience,” says Monique Foster, director of the Maritime Gallery.
Opening reception Saturday, April 29, 5-7 p.m.
