The Museum is only able to display a small fraction of its vast collection of artwork, ship models, scrimshaw, film, video, and other historical items through Museum exhibits. Join us as Senior Curator Fred Calabretta leads us into the vault to highlight a sampling of these incredible artifacts not available to the public.

Members Tours: Paper Treasures from the Collections

Among Mystic Seaport Museum’s extraordinary collections are many gems on paper. Images of ships, boats, sailors, rivers, oceans, and beaches have illustrated many of America’s most familiar forms of printed artifacts including posters, prints, sheet music, currency, trade cards, advertisements, and more. Many of these items also represent fascinating stories, such as one particular steamship “disaster print” issued in 1854 by Nathaniel Currier.
