Join us for a program that includes two exciting tours related to the photography exhibition, “When This You See, Remember Me.”

One group will begin in the Collections Research Center for a behind-the-scenes darkroom tour by Mary Anne Stets, curator of photography. Mary Anne will demonstrate the silver-gelatin printing process and then you’ll have the opportunity to tour Mystic Seaport Museum’s own modern photo studio, where many items from the Museum’s collections are documented.

Another group will begin with Senior Curator Fred Calabretta in the R.J. Schaefer Gallery for a guided tour of the exhibition “When This You See, Remember Me.” This exhibition explores the work of two Mystic-area photographers, Everett Scholfield and George Tingley, whose careers spanned the years 1865-1939. You’ll also have the opportunity to meet a roleplayer – Mrs. Eliza Burrows Vance, who witnessed the Gold Rush and the taming of the West through her camera’s lens as one of the few professional female photographers of her time.

After the first tour, the groups will switch places so that both groups can participate in each tour.

Each tour will last about 45 minutes, for a total program time of 1.5 – 2 hours.

Pre-registration is recommended, as space is limited. Participants will be notified which tour they will start with, and given directions for arrival.
