Virtual Viking Days
Our popular Viking Days event had to be cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But you can’t keep the Vikings down! Our partners have worked with us to put together a virtual Viking Day on June 20 to keep us going until we can do it in person again. The highlights are two live events via Zoom, but we also gathered some interesting videos featuring subject matter that has been a hit in past years.

“Uncovering Viking-age Combat: Strange Science?”*
Dr. William R. Short
Hurstwic, a research organization based in New England, is curious about all things Viking, with a focus on the fighting moves of the Viking-age people. They use the scientific method combined with layer upon layer of sources and experimentation to gain new insight into how Viking-age people fought and used their weapons. In this live online presentation, Dr. Short will discuss Hurstwic’s research into Viking-age combat and will share some surprising results, based on archaeological, literary, and pictorial evidence, and new scientific testing.
