Home Port is the Museum’s family activity center located in the P.R. Mallory Building. It is intended to primarily serve children ages 8-12 with a variety of crafts and amusements–many of which have been offered before and have been brought back due to popular demand.
Set in a warm and inviting room that harkens back to the Victorian Era, Home Port invites families to come and spend quality time together.
Children can explore their artistic side at the drawing station, configured to look like a lighthouse. Instructions and materials are provided and each child can choose to draw a boat, water, or the sky. There is a puppet playhouse where children may perform their own shows for the audience, a selection of traditional games to play such as board games or Skittles, a craft table that will feature a variety of different projects, and a parlor area for some quiet reading.
A highlight of the room is a story nook shaped like the prow of a boat. Benches on either side provide seats for children to enjoy the reading of a good story as they look over the bow as it appears to sail off into the night.
